ASBCE Certificate Lifecycle Automation: Surviving the 47-Day Validity Mandate

A signed, phased industry mandate cuts public TLS certificate validity to 47 days by March 2029. For ASBCE environments with internet-facing SIP trunks or remote workers, that is up to 8 renewals per year, per certificate, forever. Manual workflows do not survive that math.

The Deep Dive After the General Session

Randy Carroll takes the stage Tuesday morning, right after the general session, for a technical walkthrough of the biggest quiet problem in the SBC world: keeping certificates alive when the validity clock keeps shrinking.

Breakout Tue, Nov 310:00 to 10:45 AMMeeting Room 203Co-presented with J Zucchetto

Randy Carroll is a Senior Engineer at Gage Technologies with 20 years in telecom and network engineering and deep ASBCE experience. He builds the automation he demonstrates, then runs it in production. J Zucchetto, Director of Technical Pre-Sales Engineering, joins for the demo.

The Mandate

This Is Not a Proposal

The CA/Browser Forum's Ballot SC-081v3, approved April 2025, phases down maximum public TLS certificate validity from 398 days to 47 days by March 2029. Organizations running ASBCE with internet-facing SIP trunks, remote worker endpoints, or WebRTC are squarely in scope. The maintenance windows stack up fast.

Second step. Renewal cadence doubles again for public certificates.

March 2029
47 days

Final step. Up to 8 renewals per year, per certificate, indefinitely.

The Session

Automate the Full Rotation Loop

The session covers why the mandate exists, who it hits, and how the ASBCE REST API gives you the tooling to automate the entire loop: certificate issuance, upload, and TLS Server Profile assignment, all without touching the GUI. Then Randy and J demo the actual HTTP calls live, from a manual GUI load through full API-driven rotation with no service restart.

Your automation platform does not matter. If it speaks HTTP, it can rotate certs: Ansible, Python, Terraform, and standard ACME flows all fit the same pipeline.

Certificate Automation Plan

Tell us roughly how many public certificates you manage across ASBCE, SIP trunks, and remote worker endpoints. We will send Randy's automation plan, including the REST API call sequence and the pipeline architecture from the session, and we can walk it with you directly.
